Family Engagement: Reporting & Supporting

Parents, carers and families are by far the most important influences on children’s lives and learning. Parents who take on a supportive role in their children’s learning make a difference in improving achievement and behaviour. Their support can play a vital role at all stages of education.

The active involvement of parents in the life of the school helps promote a learning community in which pupils can engage positively with school staff and their peers. We benefit from developing positive partnerships with parents by involving them in all decisions affecting their children’s education and learning.

Below are all the ways to get involved and keep in touch.

Reporting to Children and Families

We consulted with children and families on how we can effectively develop reporting. We wanted to make sure children take a leadership role in planning learning and reporting on progress with their teachers. We asked families about how they wanted to support this process.

ENGAGING WITH FAMILIES

(Please note that during COVID family activities in school are not able to run)

    • Family Fridays - Our teaching team enjoy getting to know families and help them with their child’s learning. Classrooms are from 8:50-9:30 every Friday for families to join in (this can be as little or as frequent as you like!) We aim to organise one big Family Friday a year to bring the community together. This will be advertised well in advance.

    • Class News (2x week)- For families who are not able to pop in on Fridays, teachers post news/photos twice a week on google classroom about what the class have been learning about.

    • Home Learning - On Google Classroom teacher shares with families a range of home learning tasks. These are designed to help children share their learning with their families.

    • Meet the Team Night - at the start of the year we arrange an evening for families to come in, meet the teacher and the wider team and learn about what will be happening for the year ahead

    • Parent Consultations- families will have time to discuss target and learning with their child and class teacher. This will be in November

    • Child Led Consultation - With the support of the teacher, children will share their progress in learning with their teacher. This will be in May.

    • Phone Calls- Teachers will not wait until parent consultations to share very important information about children. They may call you from time to time. Parents can also request for teachers to call them back.

    • Newsletters- We will share news with families about what is happening across the school via termly newsletters.
